Stratiform & Palimpsest
Stratiform & Palimpsest are part of a body of work that I exhibited in ‘Atlantic Eyes- The Irish Move’ in Kulturewerkstatt Haus 10, in Fürstenfeldbruck, Germany.
The drawing series references geological strata and is inspired by a visit to Skellig Michael while I was Artist in residence at Cill Rialaig, Co. Kerry. The drawing series was completed prior to the trip, drawing from memory and documentation of the dramatic rock formation. Palimpsest, the accompanying installation piece, references time, place, and the passage of time, as well as the overlapping of embodied experience, social history, and geological matter. This piece is comprised of torn black Fabriano paper.
This exhibition is the first part in a two-part exchange between German and Irish artists, initiated by Esther Balazs and supported by Cill Rialaig, Kulturwerstatt Haus 10 and the Sarah Walker Gallery.
