Tracing Absence

During my time at the Banff centre this spring I undertook research in mapping absence, notably that created by the creation of the natural park, which denied access to the aboriginal population for many years, rendering subsistence hunting and other activities obsolete. During the residency I created handmade paper on a large scale creating a large installation which is at once topographic and skin like. Alongside this I made a series of silkscreen prints, manipulating the graphic language of mapping, dissecting and rearranging the notion of boundaries, attempting to make them porous.
